When it rains, it pours
I used to sell furniture at a Big Lots store in Shawnee, Kansas. I had a manager there who used to say, "When it rains, it pours." That quote really struck me, especially when I began to really think about it. It is quite amazing that when you run hot in poker, everything and anything goes right. Every card falls in the right place, every flop is a good flop, and every pot is a good pot. The same goes for losing streaks. Nothing goes right. Cold cards all the time, missed flops, failed bluffs, unbelievable suckouts, etc. Anyway, I thought that might be a good blog title, as it certainly fits to my day.
Friday: +$569.80
Things went very well on Friday. I lost around $200 in cash game play, so if you consider that all my money was made playing SNGs, you can see how my gameplay really paid off. Nothing too spectacular, just the usual grind.
At night, I played the Celeb League tourney along with 16 other players. I came in 3rd place and even came ITM for the first time in a while. This was a good confidence booster going into Sunday's double points tourney.
After that I headed to the Spielbank Berlin with a couple friends. Since poker is only played on Sundays, roulette was the game of choice. I won my very first bet when I bet on 4, 10, and 12. The ball fell right into the '12' slot and I collected my €70 win. I messed around a bit and ended up leaving the casino up €45. I know roulette is definitely a long term non-profitable game, but it's good fun every once in a while.
Saturday: -$216.20
This is the day that justifies the blog title. I started playing in the afternoon, cashing in 6 of my first 8 SNGs. It all looked like today was a direct continuation of yesterday's run. Little did I know, a reality check was right around the corner getting ready to kick my ass. My next 7 SNGs were all good for nothing, costing me over $800 in the process. I tried playing some cash game to break the flow but it didn't help much. Luckily I came in 2nd place in my final $109 SNG which brought me back to a reasonable loss for the day.
Tomorrow is going to be pretty interesting. I signed up for €5/10 Pot Limit Hold'em game at the Spielbank Berlin. Play starts at 4pm and I will put in 4-5 hours before coming home to play the Celeb Double Points Tourney at 10pm. Unless I am running very well, in which case I may consider just staying at the Spielbank. Those of you who have been reading the blog for a while may remember my attempt to beat this game a few months back. Unfortunately I had a horrible run and lost €500 to some of the worst players you have ever met. This time I'm taking 2 x €500 buy-ins as double ammunition in case something goes wrong. The minimum buy-in is €150 (only 15 big blinds) and you would be amazed what kind of fish come there looking make a nice score. My mouth waters just thinking about the game. Wish me luck!
